Description:

The primary function of the Project Engineer’s position is to take a project through the stages of Proposal, Development, Verification, and Validation with limited assistance. The typical projects include aircraft bleed air heating systems and/or vapor cycle air conditioning systems. The Project Engineer will formulate a system design using inputs that have been previously determined by the management team. The design phase may include conducting design review meetings as required. The process usually involves interaction with internal Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, and Sales departments, as well as the FAA and its designees. Sourcing new vendors and ensuring that compatible manufacturing processes and standards are maintained is also commonplace. The Project Engineer monitors and guides the development of the individual component designs in order to maximize system level functionality, facilitate integration will other aircraft systems, and ensure compliance with customer specifications and FAA regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assists top management in proposal activity
• Creates Compliance matrices for internal, customer, and FAA use
• Formulates system and component design based on the Compliance matrix
• Significant member of the R&D team
• Works directly with the Engineering Drafters, and directs the activities of specific Engineering resources as necessary to carry out the final design
• Conducts project-level design review meetings as required
• Provides feedback to Test and Manufacturing Engineering
• Project-level point of contact for quality assurance first article inspections
• Creates or assists in the creation of engineering test plans
• Creates or assists in the creation of system analysis, hazard assessments, FMEA, endurance/reliability testing, etc.
• Utilizes parametric 3D modeling (Mechanical Desktop or Inventor preferred) for initial concept design
• Assists in the functionality design of closed loop electronic system controllers
• Makes independent decisions on engineering problems and methods, and represents the organization to customers and suppliers in order to resolve important issues and to plan or coordinate work
• Oversees the Engineering product design/development and prototype manufacturing schedule for new projects.

Requirements and Skills:

• Working knowledge and familiarity with aircraft vapor cycle air-conditioning, bleed air, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems
• Working knowledge of, or experience with, aircraft manufacturing methods and processes.
• Knowledge of FAA certification and qualification processes/procedures
• Background in mechanical or aerospace engineering or design, with significant fluid dynamics experience
• The ability to communicate effectively and coordinate the efforts of multiple resources
• Proficiency in MS Office suite, including MS Project

• BS in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering, or BS with equivalent experience
