Description:
The primary
function of the Project Engineer’s position is to take a project
through the stages of Proposal, Development, Verification, and Validation
with limited assistance. The typical projects include aircraft bleed
air heating systems and/or vapor cycle air conditioning systems. The
Project Engineer will formulate a system design using inputs that have
been previously determined by the management team. The design phase
may include conducting design review meetings as required. The process
usually involves interaction with internal Quality Assurance, Manufacturing,
and Sales departments, as well as the FAA and its designees. Sourcing
new vendors and ensuring that compatible manufacturing processes and
standards are maintained is also commonplace. The Project Engineer monitors
and guides the development of the individual component designs in order
to maximize system level functionality, facilitate integration will
other aircraft systems, and ensure compliance with customer specifications
and FAA regulations.
Key
Responsibilities:
•
Assists top management in proposal activity
• Creates Compliance matrices for internal, customer, and FAA
use
• Formulates system and component design based on the Compliance
matrix
• Significant member of the R&D team
• Works directly with the Engineering Drafters, and directs the
activities of specific Engineering resources as necessary to carry out
the final design
• Conducts project-level design review meetings as required
• Provides feedback to Test and Manufacturing Engineering
• Project-level point of contact for quality assurance first article
inspections
• Creates or assists in the creation of engineering test plans
• Creates or assists in the creation of system analysis, hazard
assessments, FMEA, endurance/reliability testing, etc.
• Utilizes parametric 3D modeling (Mechanical Desktop or Inventor
preferred) for initial concept design
• Assists in the functionality design of closed loop electronic
system controllers
• Makes independent decisions on engineering problems and methods,
and represents the organization to customers and suppliers in order
to resolve important issues and to plan or coordinate work
• Oversees the Engineering product design/development and prototype
manufacturing schedule for new projects.
Requirements
and Skills:
•
Working knowledge and familiarity with aircraft vapor cycle air-conditioning,
bleed air, pneumatic, or hydraulic systems
• Working knowledge of, or experience with, aircraft manufacturing
methods and processes.
• Knowledge of FAA certification and qualification processes/procedures
• Background in mechanical or aerospace engineering or design,
with significant fluid dynamics experience
• The ability to communicate effectively and coordinate the efforts
of multiple resources
• Proficiency in MS Office suite, including MS Project
•
BS in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering, or BS with equivalent experience
